WHO WE ARE

NHS is the largest organization at Centennial High School with 450+ members. Over 45% of current CHS juniors and seniors have been inducted into NHS. Our members maintain a weighted GPA of 4.0 and serve the school and community with their talents. NHS has awarded $43,250 worth of college scholarships to our members since 2013. We have also donated thousands of dollars to community members in need.

MEET THE SPONSORS

Courtney Smartt

Ms. Courtney Smartt has taught at Centennial High School since 2005. During her tenure she has taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Advanced Algebra I, TAKS Lab, Advanced Quantitative Reasoning and Pre Calculus. She has served as the advisor for Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society) as well as the new content team lead for the math department. For many years she has served as the UIL Mathematics coach. Ms. Courtney Smartt attended Texas Tech University majoring in Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education in 2005. In 2009 she completed her masters in school counseling from Dallas Baptist University. She is passionate about connecting with students and serving them as well as the community.

Tammy Turner

Dr. Tammy Turner has been the librarian and University Interscholastic League Academic Coordinator at Centennial High School since 2012 and has been an NHS advisor since 2021. She has simultaneously been an English professor since 2008. Prior to that, she was a middle school librarian for four years and a middle school English teacher for six years. She was a National Honor Society member at both Rampart High School in Colorado Springs and Naaman Forest High School in Garland and has a vested interest in community service, as evidenced by her involvement over the years as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Girl Scout Service Unit Manager, Cub Scout Committee Chair, and Band Booster Committee Member. She is passionate about giving her time and skills back to the community and actively supports students who endeavor to do the same.
